Wart Removal in New Jersey

Are you tired of your unsightly warts remaining despite non-invasive treatments? If so, talk to our professional team at Advanced Foot & Ankle Surgeons based out of Cedar Knolls, NJ today about wart removal surgery.

What is Wart Removal Surgery?

Surgical excision of the wart has the highest success rate with a relatively low rate of recurrence. Although most warts go away on their own within 18 months, those that do not can are treated successfully using salicylic acid, found in over the counter medications at your local pharmacy, in addition to other remedies such as freezing and even duct tape.

Benefits of Wart Removal Surgery

In most instances, warts are simply an unsightly nuisance that can make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. In instances like these, wart removal can help boost your self-esteem. With other types of warts, especially hard to treat varieties such as plantar warts on the bottom of feet, can cause pain and difficulty walking. Because of the wide variety of warts and the locations they can appear, the benefits you receive from wart removal surgery will be specific to your diagnosis.

How is Wart Removal Performed?

For some of the most persistent infections, wart removal surgery may be required. These methods include electrosurgery, which involves using an electrical current to burn the wart, curettage, which involves cutting the wart from the skin, and laser surgery.

Our surgeons also use Bleomycin, a special substance that “kick-starts” the immune system around the area of the wart. Many times warts are hard to get rid of because they are hidden from the body’s local immune response. The bleomycin acts to stimulate this response. Once initiated, it very often leads to the eradication of the wart itself.

Preparing for Wart Removal Surgery

From an impact perspective, wart removal surgeries are generally considered mild, and require very little preparation. However, you will want to make sure we have copies of your medical history on file, including a list of drug allergies and/or special considerations, as well any relevant lab results or other tests. We will also need to have your insurance information on file, as well as an authorization form if necessary.

Wart Removal Surgery Recovery

Wart removal surgery is usually an outpatient procedure, which means you should be able to return home immediately after the treatment and requires little recovery time. In some instances, you might even be able to return to work the same day.

However, it is important to note that wart removal surgery only addresses the physical manifestations of the virus and does not address the virus itself. Because of this, warts can reappear after a wart removal surgery has been performed.
