Our physicians are trained and experienced in all foot and ankle conditions, including advanced trauma and fracture treatment. If more conservative treatments do not yield the positive results we believe are possible, we may utilize any of the following procedures:
Advanced Treatment Protocols
- Arthritis of the Great Toe Joint (Hallux Rigidus or Stiff Big Toe)
- Nerve Releases to Treat Diabetic Neuropathy
- Advanced Pain Management - the Anesthesis (Pain Pump)
- Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to treat tendons, ligaments, heel spurs and to promote wound healing
- Advanced Injection Treatment for Aggravated Nerves/Neuromas (Alcohol Sclerosing injections)
- Advanced Wart (Verrucae) Treatment (Bleomycin Sulfate Injections)
- Extracorporeal Shockwave Treatment
- Advanced Wound/Ulcer Healing
Arthroscopy
Arthoscopy of the foot and ankle gives our team a way to evaluate and treat many foot and ankle problems in a minimally invasive manner. In an arthroscopy, the surgeon inserts a small camera into a specific joint area, whether it be the ankle, or even the great toe joint. By using the scope, the surgeon is able to minimize the use of long incisions, soft tissue damage, and to avoid unnecessary dissection. This means a shorter recovery time and reduced pain and discomfort following the procedure. Arthroscopy can be used to treat many ailments, including: arthritis, ankle ligament sprains and tears, ankle fractures, cartilage defects and even tendon damage.Arthritis of the Great Toe Joint (Hallux Rigidus or Stiff Big Toe)
Nerve Releases to Treat Diabetic Neuropathy
Unfortunately, one of the many consequences of long-term diabetes is the development of neuropathy. Symptoms of neuropathy range from a simple numbness of the foot and ankle to a constant burning and tingling of the lower extremity. Our medical team is trained to release the nerves of the foot and ankle with a surgical procedure to prevent a stricture or irritation of the nerves and to free them to act in a normal manner. This procedure involves minimally invasive incisions and the patient is up and walking immediately following surgery. Dr. Mark Solomon is one of only a few surgeons in New Jersey to achieve certification in this procedure by the "Dellon Institute of Peripheral Nerve Surgery" in Maryland.Aggravated Nerves & Neuromas
Excision of Morton's Neuroma
Revisional (Corrective) Surgery
Have you had a surgery in the past that you are not happy with? The team at foot and ankle surgeons has vast experience in correcting issues resulting from prior surgeries. Our doctors customize your treatment to meet your specific goals. Our team welcomes complex deformities. We will spend as much time as may be needed to correct deformities and help patients become comfortable.Joint Implants/Joint Implant Surgery
Flatfoot Correction
Subtalar arthroereis or "STJ implantation" is a minimally invasive way to help relieve the symptoms of flat foot deformity or “collapsing arch.” One viable option is to use a small implantable device that goes into a specific area of the ankle. This helps maintain the proper position of the ankle during walking and running. This procedure requires only a very small incision. Patients are generally able to walk on the treated foot on the same day as the procedure.Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy
This is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a camera to assist surgical correction of the plantar fascia.Advanced Treatment Protocols
Advanced Pain Management - the Anesthesis (Pain Pump)
The physicians of Advanced Foot & Ankle Surgeons uses state-of-the-art pain management systems in the post-operative period. The system consists of a small pump that slowly supplies a low dose of local anesthetic that drastically reduces any pain or discomfort a patient may experience following surgery. This system is simple to use and requires no additional effort from the patient.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to treat tendons, ligaments, heel spurs and to promote wound healing
Platelet rich plasma is a groundbreaking treatment currently very popular in professional athletics. It consists of a special mixture of blood cells used to treat tendon and ligament damage. The physicians of Advanced Foot and Ankle Surgeons also uses this technology for other pathologies, such as plantar fasciitis and complicated wounds. Our understanding and use of PRP demonstrates one of the ways we stay on top of the current treatment therapies in the world of medicine.Advanced Injection Treatment for Aggravated Nerves/Neuromas (Alcohol Sclerosing injections)
Nerve "Calming" Injections for Neuromas treat the specific area of the nerve. This special mixture "calms" the nerve over time and reduces the pain and tingling that the patients usually experience with neuromas.Advanced Wart (Verrucae) Treatment (Bleomycin Sulfate Injections)
Bleomycin is a special substance that "kick-starts" the immune system around the area of a wart. Many times warts are hard to get rid of because they are hidden from the body's local immune response. The bleomycin acts to stimulate this response.; Once this response is initiated, it very often leads to the eradication of the wart itself.Extracorporeal Shockwave Treatment
This is one of the newest treatments for plantar fasciitis or “heel spur” syndrome. A non-invasive, out-patient procedure that is an alternative to surgery, it sends high energy pulses of acoustic waves into the bone and soft tissue, which allows the body to regenerate blood vessels to heal the plantar fascia. This process does not require any form of incision or sedation.Advanced Wound/Ulcer Healing
- Genetically engineered platelet derived growth factor Regranex)
- Genetically engineered living skin cells (Apligraf)
- Hyperbaric oxygen treatment
- Negative pressure wound healing (Wound Vac)
- Surgical debridement of wounds
