Learn More about Neuropathy
"New Hope for Neuropathy"
Local Surgeon receives special training to perform cutting-edge procedure to relieve neuropathy.Aggravated Nerves & Neuromas
Abnormal nerve sensations such as pins-and–needles, tingling, burning prickling or similar feelings are known as “aggravated” nerves, or paresthesias. They usually result from nerve damage due to pressure, entrapment, nerve disease, or caused by medical conditions. Continued nerve damage can lead to foot numbness and permanent loss of feeling. Any abnormal sensation needs medical investigation. If you suffer from aggravated nerves, we invite you to make an appointment with one of our doctors for an actual diagnosis.
Common aggravated nerves in the foot and ankle:
Morton’s Neuroma
A neuroma is a condition that arises from irritation of a nerve resulting in inflammation or “aggravation” of the nerve sheath. Scar tissue will form around the nerve and this is a benign condition. Irritation to the nerve can result from improper shoes, injury, or a mechanical abnormality of the foot and depends on the specifics of your condition.Click here for Surgical Treatment Options
Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral neuropathy describes damage to the peripheral nervous system, the vast communications network that transmits information from the brain and spinal cord to every other part of the body. Damage to the peripheral nervous system interferes with these vital connections and distorts, and sometimes interrupts, messages between the brain and the spinal cord. Causes may be inherited or acquired and can include physical injury to a nerve, tumors, toxins, autoimmune responses, nutritional deficiencies, alcoholism, and vascular and metabolic disorders. Diabetes is a common cause of peripheral neuropathy.
Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
Tarsal Tunnel syndrome results when the nerve that runs on the inside of the ankle joint (the posterior tibial nerve) is compressed in a small space and becomes “pinched” and “aggravated.” This is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome in the wrist. Why Advanced Foot & Ankle Surgeons
There are conservative and preventative steps that can minimize the discomfort of aggravated nerves. When these more conservative treatments fail to provide a satisfactory solution, additional procedures or surgery may be recommended. Our doctors will always begin with a conservative treatment program. If the more conservative treatment fails to provide adequate relief, you may be considered a candidate for surgery to permanently correct the problem.
